The Jefferson park and recreation department’s youth archery program got a boost this year with a donation from Darcy Blackmer Gill, a former archery student of Doreen and Skeeter Wilber.
Gill donated $250 for archery equipment, and her donation was matched by her employer. Pictured are the items purchased.
Beginning and advanced classes were taught by volunteers Phil Siglin and Don Orris at an archery range on W. Washington St.
“This valuable donation of equipment and instruction is what allows all youth the opportunity to learn archery,” Orris said.
At the end of the summer program Orris and Siglin take interested students to compete in a two-day shoot at the Iowa Games. This year in their respective age and gender classifications gold medals were awarded to Wyatt Russell, Jax Carstensen and Cheyanne Anderson; silver medals were awarded to Jayden Carstensen and Kaleb Fisher; and a bronze medal was awarded to Joseph Anderson.
